Scholarship Information

 

 

Many local scholarships are already available in Guidance, but are not required back until March of 2010.  They are as follows: 

CHARLES BROADHURST MEMORIAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is designated for a deserving senior who excels in an area of music.  It is due on March 13th, 2010.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

 COUNCILWOMAN FLORENCE MAZZER - You must write a 500 word essay which will demonstrate your desire to improve and increase community involvement in young adults.  You should be planning to major in either political science, government, law or law enforcement in order to apply for this scholarship.  Forms are available in guidance.

DONNAGIO'S - To qualify for this scholarship, you must have a GPA BELOW 3.4, plan to continue your education (2-4 years/technical/apprenticeship), and demonstrate community service and/or work experience.  A brief essay is required.  Applications are due March 13, 2010 and they are available in guidance.

DEPUTY CHIEF JOSEPH M. CARROLL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to a senior pursuing a career in law, law enforcement, criminal justice or government.  A brief biography is required and the due date is March 13th, 2010.  Applications are available in Guidance.

HARRIET RAIMONDI VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP - You must develop a portfolio of 5 pieces of art and write a brief essay on the importance of art in your life.  Applications are due on March 13th, 2010 and must be submitted to either Mr. Hill or Mrs. Stauss.

MAYOR RAYMOND SANTA LUCIA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - You must be planning to attend a 4 year college/university; display leadership skills and be a non smoker.  A brief essay is required on the topic "My View of the American Dream and How I Hope to Achieve It".  The application is due on March 13th, 2010 and is available in Guidance.

THE SADDLE BROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL P.T.A. SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship requires you to be attending a 4 yr. college; have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be able to demonstrate extra-curricular involvement.  You must also write a 200 word essay on "My Little Book of Senior Tips for Juniors".  The deadline is March 13th, 2010 and applications are in guidance.

SBEOPA SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is specifically for seniors who plan to attend a technical/trade school rather than a 2-4 year college.  Applications are available in guidance and the deadline is March 13th, 2010.

SBHS PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP - You must be entering a 2-4 yr. college; have a 2.5 GPA and a "B" average or better in bnad or chorus.  An essay is required on the topic "Why and how I plan to keep the performing arts an important part of my life".  The deadline is March 13th, 2010 and applications are in guidance.

SADDLE BROOK EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - If you are a senior with a 2.5 GPA and with demonstrated involvement in the school/community in a leadership role, you may submit your essay on "What I have learned while contributing my time and energies to the community of Saddle Brook".  Applications will be available in Guidance and the deadline is March 13th.

SADDLE BROOK UNICO SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is based upon being a well-rounded student graduating with the class of 2010.  The deadline is 4/9/10.

NATIONAL SADDLE BROOK UNICO SCHOLARSHIP - If you are of Italian origin and plan to continue your education at a 4 yr. college and you have a 3.0 GPA or B average and you can demonstrate financial need, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office.  The deadline is 4/9/10.

LOUIS BAY 2ND FUTURE MUNICIPAL LEADERS SCHOLARSHIP PROCESS - This scholarship is open to all Juniors and Seniors who plan to continue their educations and all that it requires is an essay.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office and the due date (at the Mayor's office) is March 12th.  The applications are to be given to the Mayor's Office directly.  This is a $1,000 scholarship opportunity.

BERGEN COUNTY SCHOOL NURSES' ASSOCIATION - If you are a senior who is planning to pursue a career in Nursing and have been accepted into a nursing program and if you have a 2.5 GPA, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Application forms are available in Guidance and the deadline is April 13th.

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF BERGEN COUNTY - If you plan to further your education and have demonstrated outstanding volunteerism, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in Guidance and the deadline is April 1st.

            STATE AND NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

FASHION INSTITUTE OF DESIGN & MERCHANDISING - Awarded to six students who demonstrate an exceptional talent and interest in Fashion Design, Visual Communications, Interior Design, Digital Media, Fashion Merchandising or Graphic Design.  For additional info call 800-262-3436.  The deadline is 4/30/10.

HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND - There are numerous scholarships available to students of Hispanic heritage.  You can access them through this site and they include the Gates Millennium Scholarship, Scholarship programs for graduating high school seniors and college scholarship programs.  Another HHF scholarship is in conjunction with Colgate-Palmolive Company and is for $10,000.....applications are due before November 30th and are accessible at www.colgate.com/hazlau. Go online and check it out.

NATIONAL CO-OP SCHOLARSHIP - If you have any interest in attending one of the following 8 colleges, your GPA is 3.5 or better and you also plan to be employed while in college, you may qualify for this scholarship:  Drexel Univ., Johnson & Wales, Kettering Univ., Pace Univ., RIT, Univ. of Cincinnati, Univ. of Toledo, Wentworth Inst. of Tech..  If you would like additional information you may access the following website:   www.co-op.edu

2010 JOHN F. KENNEDY PROFILE IN COURAGE ESSAY CONTEST - You are invited to write an original essay on the political courage of a US elected official.  It takes courage to stand up for your beliefs.  Some elected officials risk their careers to do right by their community and country.  In "Profiles in Courage", John F. Kennedy described eight U. S. elected officials who demonstrated political courage.  Here's your chance to write a new profile in courage.  For additional info, go to www.jfklibrary.org

THE PRINCIPAL'S LEADERSHIP AWARD SCHOLARSHIP - If you would like to be nominated for this scholarship, you must complete the form www.principals.org/pla and you must be qualified through leadership skills, service, awards, honors and achievements, employment experience and academic record.  We must receive a copy of your on-line application early in November so that we have time to process our nominee.  If you are interested, please let  your counselor know.  You must be in the top 20% of your class to apply.....and this scholarship is worth $12,000 to the top winner!!!

FOX SPORTS EN ESPANOL AND CABLEVISION'S POWER TO LEARN SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is awarded to one Latino male and one female student-athlete with demonstrated commitment to serving the community.  If you qualify, you may apply on-line at www.foxlatinostudentathlete.com/newyork.  Mrs. Brodt, in guidance, also has application forms.

THE EAGLE FOUNDATION - If you have achieved at least a 3.4 GPA and have combined SAT scores of at least 1800; have held leadership positions in school and community and require financial assistance to attend college, you may qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in Guidance and the deadline is 4/1/10.

NEW JERSEY VIETNAM VETERAN'S MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

- If you have visited the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial and will write an essay you will qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in Guidance and the deadline is 4/16/10.

 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIPS:

          1.  PAST PRESIDENT ELSIE BAILEY SCHOLARSHIP - you must be the child, grandchild or great-grandchild of a veteran who served during WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada & Lebanon, 89-90 Panama or the persian Gulf and you must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, character and Americanism.  You must be a NJ resident for the past two years and the armed service dates must match the dates on the scholarship application form.  Due date 4/15/10 and applications are available in Guidance.  (blue form)

          2.  CAROLINE HOWARTH SCHOLARSHIP - same requirements as above. (white form)

          3.  PAST PRESIDENT'S PARLEY SCHOLARSHIP - for students entering the field of nursing or related vocation with the same service dates as above and the same demonstrated qualifications.  Same due date and apps. avail. in guidance.  (green form)

          4.  THE DOROTHY KELLERMAN SCHOLARSHIP - Same veteran service dates and same qualifications.  (yellow form) 

          5.  THE CLAIRE OLIPHANT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - Same veteran service dates and same qualifications (pink form)

NJ STATE ELKS SPECIAL CHILDREN'S SCHOLARSHIP -  If you have a diagnosed physical disability and you plan to continue your education, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available through the Guidance Office.  The deadline is 4/2/10.

 NEW JERSEY BURGLAR & FIRE ALARM ASSOC. - If you are the son/daughter of active-duty police and fire personnel and you are applying to a college/university in this state, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  The deadline is March 10th and applications are available in the Guidance Office.

 BODY BY MILK - The Sammy Awards are awarded to senior athletes who are on top of his/her game when it comes to academics and community service.  To apply you can go to:  bodybymilk.com and the deadline is March 5th. 

 NJ MILITIA, HEARD'S BRIGADE SCHOLARSHIP - If you are a senior planning to attend an accredited college and are willing to write an essay on a given topic regarding the revolutionary war, you may qualify for this scholarship.  Information is available in the guidance office.  The deadline is February 28th, 2010.

 NJ SCHOOL COUNSELOR'S ASSOC. SCHOLARSHIP - If you are planning to continue your education at an accredited college and you feel that your guidance counselor has played a significant role in your life, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in the guidance office.  The deadline is March 11, 2010.

NEW JERSEY SCHOOLWOMEN'S SCHOLARSHIP - If you are young woman interested in a career in the field of education and you have outstanding academics and community/school involvement, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office and the deadline is 2/27/10.

BEST BUY @ 15 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - If you have solid grades and are involved in volunteer community service or work experience, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Apply on-line at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships or www.at15.com   The deadline is 2/15/10.

RON VALLEKAMP ENVIRONMENTAL SCHOLARSHIP - Seniors who plan to major or minor in one of the natural sciences or other appropriate subject and who demonstrates a strong personal commitment to the environment should apply for this scholarship.  The deadline is April 22, Earth Day and applications are available in guidance.

NJ CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME SCHOLARSHIP - If you have been medically diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and you are a graduating senior planning to attend a college (2 or 4 year) either full time or part time, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in guidance and the deadline is 4/19/10.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS offer  scholarships to students who pursue a college degreein Civil Engineering.  You must have a 3.0 or higher GPA.  Applications are available in Guidance and the deadline is March 26th.

THE 200 CLUB OF BERGEN COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP is offered to students who are children or step children of active, retired or deceased BC law enforcement officers, fire fighters or ambulance corps members.  You will be judged on community involvement, academics, financial need and service of applicant or family member to law enforcement, fire or emergency medical service.  The deadline is 4/21/10 and applications are available in guidance.

SPENCER SAVINGS BANK SCHOLARSHIP - If you plan to pursue a career in banking, business or finance, have a history of community service and leadership, good grades and a household income at or below $51,840, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in Guidance and the deadline is March 15, 2010.

TZU CHI SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship is based upon financial need  and will be awarded to seniors who plan to attend college full-time in September and who can demonstrate financial need via their parent's Income Tax REturns.  If you qualify, please come to Guidance to pick up an application form.  The deadline is March 20, 2010.

MAYFLOWER SCHOLARSHIP - If you are a resident of NJ and graduate in the upper fourth of your class or have SAT or ACT total scores at or above the 75th percentile and you will be entering a NJ 4 year college, you may submit your name to your guidance counselor for a nomination for this particular scholarship....it will be on a first-come, first-served basis as we are only able to nominate one student.

JUNIOR SCHOLARSHIP - If you are a junior with a GPA of at least 2.7 and you participate in community or volunteer services and plan to attend a 4 year college or university, you qualify to apply for the Nordstrom Scholarship.  To apply you must go to the website:  Nordstrom.com/scholarship and the due date is 5/15/10.

NJUA - NJ Utilities Association Equal Employment Opportunity Scholarship - This scholarship is only offered to young women or disabled young men or members of a minority group and you must have demonstrated overall academic excellence and financial need.  Applications are available in Guidance and the deadline is 4/2/10.

 KOHL'S CARES FOR KIDS - This scholarship is offered to students in both high school and middle school.  If you are doing great work to benefit your community, whether organizing a local food drive, helping a younger child learn to read or cleaning up a community park, every contribution makes a difference.  Come to the guidance office to request a nomination for this scholarship.  You can go online to get additional information at www.kohlskids.com and klicking on the toolkit link.  The deadline is March 15th.

NJ SCHOLARSHIP & GRANT PROGRAMS FROM THE FOSTER AND ADOPTIVE FAMILY SERVICES  - If you are a foster child who may or may not be now adopted, you may qualify for a number of scholarships sponsored by the above captioned service.  The Guidance Office is in possession of a booklet listing a number of scholarships available for foster children.  See Mrs. Brodt, in the Guidance office for additional information.

NJ DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS SCHOLARSHIP - If you are planning to continue your education after high school, and you are a natural or adopted descendant of a member of the NJDAV, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  Applications are available in Guidance and the deadline is 4/15/10.

MARINE TRADES ASSOC. OF NJ SCHOLARSHIPS  (two scholarships - see below)-

          MTA/NJ EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP - This scholarship may be aplied towards any marine trades program at any school.

          AUTOMOTIVE TRAINING CENTER - This scholarship for a Marine Service Technology Program at the Automotive Training Center in Pennsylvania.

ARMENIAN RELIEF SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP - If you are a senior of Armenian heritage; have lived in Bergen County for over a year; plan to attend a 4 year college or univ. and demonstrate academic excellence (A-B average plus min. SAT 1500), you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  You must request an application in writing or email to: Nora.Hovanesian@maisonduchocolat.com   The deadline is April 30th.

H.S. JUNIORS - TRIPLE-IMPACT COMPETITION - If you are a scholar/athlete and a Junior, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  applications are available in the Guidance Office and the deadline is May 1st.

 NKBA SCHOLARSHIP - The National Kitchen & Bath Association sponsors a scholarship for juniors and seniors who plan to continue their education and pursue a career in design (for example: kitchen design, bath design, interior design, architect, etc.)  You must demonstrate good character, attitude, attendance and citizenship.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office and the deadline is 5/17/10.

THE COLUMBIANS - This Italian-American scholarship is now available on-line at www.thecolumbians.org or you may pick up a form in the Guidance Office.  To qualify for this scholarship you must provide an essay and be of Italian-American descent.  The deadline for this scholarship is April 30th.

 MELISSA ANNE CENTRELLA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - If you plan to pursue a career in nursing, medical schiences or medical technology and you have at least a 3.0 GPA, you qualify to apply for this application.  Pick up forms in Guidance and the deadline is 4/10/10.

BERGEN COUNTY SCHOOL COUNSELOR ASSOC. SCHOLARSHIP - If you plan to become a teacher or guidance counselor and your GPA is 3.0 or higher, you qualify to apply for this scholarship.  The deadline is March 26 and applications are available in Guidance.

FREDDIE & ADA BROWN AWARD - If you are a student of African American or Native American heritage and you plan a career in the chemical sciences and carry a B average in science, you qualify to apply.  The deadline is March 31 and applications are available in Guidance.
