Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 14-18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, our sponsor is the Fair Lawn A.M. Rotary Club, which provide support and guidance, but Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting.
Club membership varies greatly. Clubs can be single-gender or mixed, as well as large and small. We have approximately 40 members this school term.
Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through projects, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs. And, in the process, Interactors develop leadership skills and learn the value of hard work. Our “pet project” last year was to sponsor a child for open-heart surgery through the “Gift of Life” program. Our child was Connor from Uganda, Africa who had a successful surgery and is doing well.
As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 10,700 clubs in 109 countries and geographical areas, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon. The newest branch of Rotary is React which is the Middle School equivalent of the Interact Club. Saddle Brook was the first district to have this club.
Interactors also often spearhead the formation ofRotaract clubs and participate as juniors in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). (Ask one of our participants about this award, we had five participate last year and three will be attending this June.)
Meetings are held on the third Friday of the month (unless otherwise noted) at 7:30 a.m. in the Media Center. For information about the Interact Club, speak to one of their advisors, Mrs. Dorothy Filipek and Mrs. Ida Luteran.
